Nancy Geary

Although we don?t know exactly when this author was born, we do know it was in New York City and probably about 1967. Nancy Geary was educated in Manhattan and graduated first from the Spence School, which was a school for girls only and located in Manhattan?s Upper East Side.

When one knows about the differences between her parents, what might be amazing is that they married at all, and it?s a much smaller wonder that they eventually divorced. We can only speculate what it meant to a female child to have a father who was determined to teach his children the importance of hard work and financial self-sufficiency ? being principal of a Wall Street specialist firm himself. Nancy Geary?s father was an advocate of ritual and continuity. Nancy?s mother, on the other hand, was a photographer who often disregarded the importance of her daughter?s school days to take her visiting museums or to the movies. The house in Southampton her father had purchased for them was often filled with artists, actors, writers, and musicians. The mother instilled in Nancy an appreciation for diversity, creativity, and disregard for convention. As a result, Nancy Geary seems to have acquired some of both parents? attributes.

In spite of the missed days of early education, Nancy Geary graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 1987. Her honors thesis there on AIDS won her the Minnie Helen Hicks prize. Following Brown, Nancy Geary attended Harvard Law School, where she also graduated cum laude. She then had a position as Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General?s Office.

After a brief stint at private practice in a Boston law firm, Nancy Geary left law to write full time. A fairly new author, she has completed three crime novels to date, Regrets Only being her latest accomplishment. Nancy Geary presently lives in a wonderful old house in Westchester County, built in 1790. Ms. Geary lives there with her son ? although we?re not told of a marriage ? and two Labrador Retrievers plus some other smaller pets; obviously those of her son. Nancy Geary will be an interesting author to watch as she develops; already good, her characterizations and plots can only get better.
