The Hidden Assassinsby: Robert Wilson |
Rosemary AubertWe have no information on where, when or how Rosemary Aubert was born or her education. All we know is that Rosemary Aubert has herself worked in the criminal courts, giving her the knowledge and expertise necessary to write about them. Ms. Aubert presently works as a judge's deputy for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, Canada.Rosemary Aubert won praise for both her first two books (all we've read so far) but the first (Free Reign) is the better written of the two. However, since Ms. Aubert's next work (The Feast of Stephen) is her second murder mystery book, you would expect an improvement. Alas, it doesn't happen. One might overlook the fact that some of the clues presented are unclear, but her writing lacks the pacing, exuberance and spark of more seasoned writers - and it's all too evident. None of the latter precludes The Feast of Stephen from being a pleasant read if you don't mind spending the money. Rosemary Aubert has potential, evidenced by the fact that back in 1994 she won the Arthur Ellis Canadian Crime Writer's Award for one of her stories. Or maybe the Canadians were hurting for a seasoned writer at that time? Rosemary Aubert?s first venture into book writing was Free Reign, introducing Ellis Portal to the public. Free Reign earned the praise of critics from the Wall Street Journal, the San Francisco Examiner, and the New York Times, among others. It demonstrated what Ms. Aubert can accomplish if she puts her mind to it. Murder Mystery ReviewsBooks by this author we have reviewed: |
