Edna Buchanan

Edna Buchanan was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1939.

Ms. Buchanan attended the Montclair State Teachers College in New Jersey, then moved to Florida, securing a job at a small newspaper. In the late 1960's Edna Buchanan became a reporter for the Miami Beach Daily Sun. Then in 1970 she was hired by the Miami Herald as a general assignment and police beat reporter.

Coinciding with the unpalatable facts of Miami's notorious focus as center of the international drug trade, Edna Buchanan became THE police beat reporter for the Miami Herald in 1973. Ms. Buchanan's work there brought her into the national spotlight of recognition when she won a Pulitzer Prize for police and crime reporting.

Edna Buchanan retired from jhournalism and is presently writing mystery novels - many based on what she learned and experienced during her journalistic years.

Ms. Buchanan has been nominated twice for the Edgar Award, and in addition to the Pulitzer, she has won the George Polk Award for Career Achievement in Journalism. At this date she presently resides in the city which forms the background for most of her books, Miami, Florida.
