Robert Crais
Robert Crais was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in either 1953 or 1954 - the Internet is a little vague on this!
Mr. Crais was raised in a blue-collar family consisting of workers in an oil refinery and some police officers. He attended college (we don't know where) training as a mechanical engineer but didn't finish it.
Robert Crais worked for several years making amateur films and writing short fiction, then in 1976 Robert Crais went West to settle in Hollywood, California, pursuing his dream of becoming a full-time writer.
In Hollywood Mr. Cais scripted a number of series pilots and movies for all four TV networks - and received an Emmy nomination for Hill Street Blues. His favorite from that period is 'Cross of Fire', a four hour miniseries, documenting the rise to national attention of the Klu Klux Klan in the 1920's.
Robert Crais' novel 'The Monkey's Raincoat' won both the Anthony and Macavity Awards. Mr. Crais also has credits for at least one or more major motion pictures. His novels featuring Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are the result of exploring themes Mr. Crais couldn't accomplish in other fields.
When he isn't writing, Robert Crais enjoys being an active aerobatic pilot, cooking gormet food, and backpacking. Mr. Caris currently lives in the Santa Monica mountains of Los Angeles.
