Joseph Kanon

We?ve not been provided with the information on when and where Jospeh Kanon was born or where he grew up. We do know that Mr. Kanon was educated at Harvard, where he began his career in publishing as a reader for the Atlantic Monthly magazine. Joseph Kanon then attended Trinity College in Cambridge, England as a graduate pupil. Mr. Kanon proceeded from there to a number of editorial and management positions, becoming the President and CEO of E.P. Dutton and then the Executive Vice President, head of Trade and Reference Publishing for Houghton Mifflin.

It wasn?t until 1995 that Joseph Kanon wrote his first book. This was Los Alamos ? and set during the final months of the Manhattan Project. His work on Los Alamos became a best-seller, was translated into 18 languages and won the Edgar for best first novel. An impressive beginning! Yet not so impressive when you consider the fact that he had already worked in publishing for a number of years and not only knew what they wanted and what sold best, but also undoubtedly had the contacts to help him along!

It still takes some talent to write as well as Joseph Kanon does ? and I must say he deserves any breaks he received along the way. Mr. Kanon presently lives with his wife and two sons in New York City.
