Deon Meyer

1958 saw the birth of Deon Meyer in South Africa. Mr. Meyer was born in Paarl, located in the wine region of the Western Cape. Deon Meyer then grew up in Klerksdorp, and that's in the gold mining region of the Northwest Provence.

Deon Meyer served in the military, then studied at Potchefstroom University where he majored in - ? Probably writing of some kind, since he then took a position as a reporter with a daily newspaper in Bloemfontein.

Mr. Meyer has since worked as press liason, advertising copywriter,creative director, web manager, internet strategist and brand consultant.

Mr. Meyer wrote short stories for different South African magazines when he was in his early thirties and in 1994 published his first novel - which has not been translated into English. Everything since has been translated into 8 other languages besides his native Afrikanns.

The ATKV Prose Prize was awarded 3 times to Deon Meyer, and the Chicago Tribune's 10 best list also features him. Mr. Meyer is the recipient of the French Le prix Mystere de la critique and was shortlisted for other well-known European and American literary prizes.

Other than his family, Deon Meyer enjoys motorcycling, music (both kinds), reading, cooking and rugby. Mr. Meyer currently lives in Melkbosstrand on the South African West Coast with his wife Anita and their four children.
