Lawrence Block

Born in 1938 in Buffalo, New York, Lawrence Block attended Antioch College in Ohio. From there Mr. Block had various jobs which covered cranking out pornographic paperbacks. His writing experience began in the mailroom, then he got work as a reader of the slush pile for a New York agent. Lawrence Block has also written under the names of William Ard, Jill Emerson, Chip Harrison, Paul Kavanaugh, Sheldon Lord, and Andrew Shaw.

Lawrence Block is most assuredly one of the most successful commercial and critically acclaimed writers around. His series characters all possess different personalities (which must give Mr. Block some relief from boredom!) and his prolific output of articles and short fiction is nothing short of amazing, especially when you consider the effort put into his novels alone.

His Bernie Rhodenbarr and Matthew Scudder novels are probably the most well known, although everything Lawrence Block has written deserves praise. He's won just about every award available to mystery writers, including three Edgars an four Shamus Awards. Lawrence Block is also Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America. Mr. Block currently is located in New York City with his wife Lynne - when he's not someplace else like Britian or Ireland, which he frequently visits.
