Carolyn Hart
Carolyn Hart's birth name was Carolyn Gimpel, changed when she married a young law student named Phil. Ms. Hart's initial writing was as a reporter. She worked on her school newspaper, majored in journalism at the University of Oklahoma, and after marriage worked on a local news rag. Carolyn Hart's son was born in Washington, D.C. and her daughter was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (they moved around due to Phil's army career).
Ms. Hart's first book was published in 1964 as the result of a contest she won, and it was a juvenile mystery. Carolyn Hart's most famous series didn't appear until 1987.
In addition to this much loved and wonderful Death on Demand series, Carolyn Hart has also written a series about a retired female journalist, turned sleuth, named Henrietta O'Dwyer Collins, known as the Henrie O books. Ms. Hart had written twelve other Death on Demand books before April Fool Dead was published in 2002. Glowing reviews of Carolyn Hart's writing skill abound, including the Los Angeles Times comment that should they ever teach a course on how to write a mystery, Carolyn Hart would be required reading. Ms. Hart has accumulated a number of awards for her work, and among them are multiples of Agathas, Anthonys and McCavitys. Carolyn Hart has also won the 2000 Oklahoma Book Award for Fiction. Living herself in Oklahoma City, Ms. Hart is also the founder of a mystery group called Sisters in Crime.
