Eleanor Taylor Bland

We only know that Eleanor Taylor Bland was originally from Boston, and presumably born there. Exactly when her birth occurred we're not told. Nor do we know whether the photo she's released is current. We do know Eleanor Taylor Bland has grandchildren, so the best we can come up with is that Ms. Bland is somewhere between 40 and 60!

Eleanor Taylor Bland is African American, which gives the lady a certain panache and distinction among mystery writers. Ms. Bland is one of the very few people of color to write in this field so successfully. Eleanor Taylor Bland graduated from the College of Lake County and also Southern Illinois University, holding degrees in Accounting and Education.

This author moved to Waukegan in 1972, and considers it her real home, although she does visit Boston on occasion. The town of Lincoln Prairie, fictional location for her novels, is actually a mix of Waukegan, North Chicago and Zion. Ms. Bland has had the distinction of having a more famous mystery writer edit some of her work - Sara Paretsky.

Eleanor Taylor Bland has received the Pen Oakland Josephine Miles Award, The Chester A. Himes Mystery Fiction Award, and the Most Influential African American of Lake County Award. Ms. Bland is a member of The Mystey Writers of America, a charter member of Sisters in Crime, and the co-chair of Outreach to Authors of Color. Eleanor Taylor Bland Bland has also been nominated for the Gold Ren Award. At this writing, Eleanor Taylor Bland has written nine novels in her acclaimed series featuring her black heroine, Marti MacAlister, a police detective.
