Deborah Crombie

Very little is known about this mystery author who writes so knowledgeably about England and Scotland, other than that she was born and brought up in Texas, where she presently lives with her husband, a German Shepherd and three cats.

Ms. Crombie has indeed lived in England and Scotland, but we don't know when or how long. Long enough, apparently, to be able to describe both settings with a familiarity that encourages you to visit, and her continued trips there can do nothing more than increase her knowledge.

Deborah Crombie has successfully created Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid of Scotland Yard and given him a feisty female partner in Sergeant Gemma James - a duo made famous as soon as her first novel (A Share in Death), featuring these two was published by Scribner in 1993. Deborah Crombie subsequently received nominations for both the Agatha and McCavity Best First Novel Awards.

Ms. Crombie has also received an Edgar nomination for the best novel of 1997 for 'Dreaming of the Bones' by the Mystery Writers of America. The latter was also chosen by the New York Times as Book of the Year, and by Indepenent Mystery Booksellers of America as one of the 100 Best Crime Novels of the Century.

Deborah Crombie's mysteries have been published in eight foreign countries. Ms. Crombie still travels to England several times a year, and has been a featured speaker at Oxford.
