The Hidden Assassinsby: Robert Wilson |
Lawrence SandersLike Lawrence Block (and don't get them mixed up!) Lawrence Sanders is another prolific writer, even though he didn't start writing novels until age 50, when he published "The Anderson Tapes' and got an Edgar for that first novel.Mr. Sanders is no longer with us - and that's indeed unfortunate - but we at least have his legacy of many, many books. Born in Brooklyn in 1920, Lawrence Sanders died while living in Florida in 1998 at the age of 78. Mr. Sanders was a graduate of Wabash College in Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Returning to New York, he got himself a job at Macy's, the largest department store in the world at that time. In 1943 he joined the Marine Corps for the Second World War, being discharged in 1946. Lawrence Sanders then spent the next 20 years writing for journalism before turning to crime and suspense fiction. The total of Mr. Sander's fictional output is 38 books, selling over 58 million copies just in the United States. Mr. Sanders' novels include the Ten Commandment series and the McNally series. He was noted for mixing his crime stories with a generous helping of high-tech information and sex. Lawrence Sanders was one of the greats in mystery writing and will be sorely missed.
