The Hidden Assassins

by: Robert Wilson

Jonathan Gash

Jonathan Gash is the pseudonym of John Grant, born in Bolton, Lancashire, England in 1933. Mr. Grant is actually a doctor, educated at the Unversity of London. Although justly famous for the creation of his Lovejoy series in 1977, and his comprehensive knowledge of antiques, John Grant has served as a general practicioner, pathologist, clinical pathologist, and microbiologist - as well as being a medical lecturer at the University of Hong Kong.

John Grant was also head of bacteriology at the school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for the University of London between 1971 and 1988. Despite his doctoral accomplishments, and even though he has created another series with a fictional woman as his protagonist (Clare Burtonall) he will always be primarily remembered for Lovejoy and the wonderful insight given on antiques.

John Grant was made major while posted in Germany with the British Army. After seeing his three daughters mature and give him grandchildren, Mr. Grant is currently retired and lives in Essex, England, with his wife.
