The Hidden Assassinsby: Robert Wilson |
Margery AllinghamMargery Allingham (1904-1968) was born in London to an entire writing family, the most notable of whom was H. J. Allingham, her author father. Margery Allingham published her first story at the tender age of eight, and her first novel before she was even twenty.Margery Allingham attended school in Cambridge, then went to the Polytechnic for Speech Training in London. Ms. Allingham is best known for her mystery novels with Albert Campion as the protagonist - based rather loosely at first on Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey, then gradually becoming a fully fleshed out character in his own right. World War Two made a change in Ms. Allingham's work, where Albert Campion was often relegated to the background and the suspects or criminals in the story took center stage. Margery Allingham married P. Y. Carter, an artist, journalist and editor who designed many of her book covers. Until her death they lived on the edge of the Essex Marshes in England. Ms. Allingham is one of the First Ladies of Mystery, doing her bit to bring the Golden Age of mystery fiction to fruition during the 1920's and 1930's. She's often listed along with the other Queens of Mystery - Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers and Ngaio Marsh. Murder Mystery ReviewsBooks by this author we have reviewed: |
