M. C. Beaton

M. C. Beaton is the mystery pseudonym of Marion Chesney, born 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland. Ms. Chesney (or M. C. Beaton) is also known by a number of other names - Helen Crampton, Ann Fairfax, Jennie Tremaine, & Charlotte Ward, among others. Ms. Chesney is reviewed elsewhere on this site under her own name.

M. C. Beaton has a background as a fiction buyer for a bookseller, a reporter, a theatre critic, and a women's fashion magazine editor. BBC has made her Hamish MacBeth stories into a TV series.

Ms. Beaton is justly famous for the Hamish MacBeth and Agatha Raisin novels, both containing humor and easy reading along with plots which contain exactly the right amount of suspense without confusion. Both series of mystery books describe life in small Scottish villages from the standpoint of the murder, mayhem and gossip that goes on there. She also writes in other genres under the names listed above.

M. C. Beaton herself lives in an English Cotswolds cottage with her husband, Harry Scott.
