Robin Cook

Robin Cook is (was?) a medical doctor. And although his stories have made at least four movies, my own opinion is he should have stayed a doctor - maybe telling his tales to someone who can really write.

Robin Cook was born in the city of New York, New York on May 4th, 1940. A graduate of Columbia University Medical School, he completed his postgraduate work at Harvard. Currently on leave from the Massachusetts Ear and Eye Infirmary (at least still on leave in 1994) he currently resides in Florida. We know nothing more of his personal life.

Robin Cook is probably best known for his first novel, 'Coma' - an outstanding success and made into a movie with Michael Crichton. Mr. Cook undoubtedly tells a fascinating tale from the standpoint of medical technology, but he must have had a very good editor for 'Coma' - someone who wasn't besieged back then by the bottom line of marketing. Robin Cook is famous - but for his stories, not his writing. And I'm certainly not the lone person who thinks along those lines. If you doubt me, go to www.salon.com/col/carr/ and read the review of "Hamburger Hades' for Robin Cook's book, 'Toxin.'
